A $5.5 million project to reconstruct and realign the US-77 bridge over the Cimarron River just north of Guthrie between SH-74C and East County Road 76 is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 4. Motorists are advised to be aware of construction workers nearby and to use caution in the area.
The new bridge will be built parallel to the existing structure meaning there will be no impact to traffic until late spring 2019 when motorists can expect an up to 30-day closure to connect the highway to the new bridge. Detour at that time will be SH-74C to SH-74 to SH-33.
Once traffic is moved to the new bridge, the existing structure will be removed.
The overall project, which includes the addition of shoulders on the new bridge, is scheduled to complete in early summer 2019, weather permitting. The project was awarded in June by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission to Frontier Bridge Inc./Bridgeco Contractors.
