Meridian Technology Center students receive memorial scholarships

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education and the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation recently awarded scholarships to 10 students from Meridian Technology Center.

Nicole Aase, Blackwell; McKayla Heath, Perry; Sarah McKee, Guthrie; and Stillwater students Alyson Wilson, Samantha Fletcher, Sara Glover, Candice Norris, Raven Manous, Tiffani Unverzagt and Noah Knapp received the Otha Grimes Memorial Scholarship.

Aase is also the recipient of the Francis Tuttle Memorial Scholarship.

Dr. Francis Tuttle was the architect of what is now Oklahoma’s CareerTech system. He began his career as an agriculture teacher and eventually became Director of the State Department of Vocational and Technical Education, now the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.

Otha Grimes was actively involved in agriculture, oil and gas production, and civic programs throughout the state. Grimes served as a member of the board of directors for the CareerTech Foundation. This scholarship is reserved for adult students who may not qualify for other scholarship opportunities or student assistance programs.

Awards for both scholarships are unrestricted with respect to the occupational area. Funds can be used to assist adult students with tuition, books and other direct expenses incurred for training. The Otha Grimes scholarship is reserved for students who may not qualify for other scholarship opportunities or student assistance programs.
