GHS Band earns high ratings; several students earning high accolades

The Guthrie High School Band has put together great performances in the last few weeks, including at last week’s competition at State.

The band competed at the OSSAA Regional Marching competition on Oct. 23 at Yukon High School, where they received a Superior Rating. They also competed at the State OBA Marching Competition where they place fifth in the Class 5A competition and sixth overall in the Finals Competition.

“They put in a lot of hard work each and every day,” Director Rob Blackburn said. “It is great to be so blessed by these students and this community.”

The program took several 7th-12th graders to NCDA All-Region/First Round All-State Honor Band auditions last Saturday at Owasso High School.

Several students made the Honor Band and passed on to the second round All-State, which will occur December 1 at Westmoore High School.

Those students, include seventh grader Jet Robbins, eighth Grader Aeryn Shields, freshmen Carmyn Wellden, Sydney Davidson, Taelor Martin along with Olivia Morgan, Arrowanna Taylor, Tanner Dollar, Hayden Hirzel, Wyatt Sarasua and Connor Blackburn.

The following students passed through to the second round of All-State: Connor Blackburn, Tanner Dollar, Hayden Hirzel, Robert Paddack, Andrew Rowley, Arrowanna Taylor, Jordan Mack, Olivia Morgan and Wyatt Sarasua.

Rob Blackburn says his students are being rewarded for their effort they have put in.

“I am super proud of all of our students. It is great to be so blessed by these students and this community.”
