Car seat check a success


In an effort to reduce motor vehicle-related deaths and injury, the leading killer of children under 14, Safe Kids Oklahoma, the Logan County Health Department, and the Guthrie Fire Department held a car seat check-up event on Friday at the Guthrie Fire Department.

The Territorial Riders were a big help to the annual Olive Garden Pasta Dinner Benefiting Guthrie Special Olympics on Saturday evening at GUES. Job well done by all involved.

Wreck shuts down Noble on Tuesday 
A two-vehicle accident shut down Noble for about 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Walnut. Two females were taken to a local hospital with a non-emergency transport.

Citizens learning at fire academy

The Citizens Fire Academy is nearing the half way point in its first year. The academy is structured much like the Citizens Government Academy and Citizens Police Academy. All three academies are put on by the City of Guthrie at no charge. Fire Chief celebrates one year on the job  
   
It has been just days since Eric Harlow celebrated his first year as Guthrie’s Fire Chief and in those months the chief has done and seen a lot, but looks ahead to the future to continue making strides.

Craft Show benefits Guthrie Special Olympics

Over 40 vendors turned out March 3rd and 4th at the Logan County Fairgrounds for an Antique and Crafts Show. All proceeds from the booth rentals and concession stand went to the Guthrie Special Olympics.

 

Fire crews squash grass fire 

 
Guthrie fire crews handled this grass fire on Santa Fe road near Highway 33 on February 21st. Approximately 30 acres burned in the fire. 

Friends raise $3,000 this year; piled up $172,000 

 
Friends of the Library held their annual book sale with proceeds going toward the Guthrie Library. The book sale raised $3,000 this year and a total of $172,000 has been collected since the program started. Photo By Chris Evans

 

SWAT teams making impact on their communities
LeAnna Ezell was the winner of the drawing from of 16 stores. None of the sixteen stores sold to tobacco to a minor. Store owners and clerks are doing their part to reduce tobacco sales among youth in Logan County. Read more…

Specialist Michael Manning’s family knew he was coming home from the war from Afghanistan, but they did not know he was coming home a week early.

 

January cold brings Guthrie its first snow of 2012
 

Frankie Pirochta, 4, took advantage of the first snow of 2012 when the temperatures dropped just below freezing to bring the snow flakes to the ground Wednesday evening. Winds gust over 30 mph to help aid the flakes.

On October 7, Guthrie Police Chief Damon Devereaux celebrated his 20th year of service at the Guthrie Police Department.

The Guthrie Fraternal Order of Police sponsored the annual Shop With A Cop event. The GPD has sponsored the program for 10-plus years.

The City of Guthrie held the Guthrie Fire Station Auction on the west side of town on July 21, 2011. The winning bid was by Charlie Smith, of Guthrie, at $59,000.
