Almost one month after tornadoes ripped through parts of the state, tornado victims are being provided with food assistance.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will provide disaster food benefits to households that were affected by the disaster.

Disaster SNAP assistance has been approved for Caddo County, Canadian County, Delaware County, Grady County, Kingfisher County, Logan County and McClain County.

The program will begin on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 8 a.m. and run through Thursday, June 30, 2011.

Participants will complete a form that declares they sustained either a loss or income or incurred disaster-related expenses as a result of the storms. Officials say applicants must have been residing in the disaster area at the time of the tornado.

Compensation is based on the size of the household and income requirements. Applicants must provide a photo ID, a signed affidavit and two documents proving residency and identity.

Interviews will be conducted by local county OKDHS staff at the county offices.
