The Guthrie Park Board will be holding their next scheduled meeting Thursday, July 21, and among the topics will be consideration for a Dog Park at Mineral Wells Park.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 101 N. 2nd Street.

Several people in the community have expressed interest in the dog park, but have found trouble finding a location with enough land area according to Guthrie City Manager Matt Mueller.

“Right now the board is discussing the possibility of putting a dog park to the north-west of the water treatment plant at Mineral Wells Park,” Mueller said.

In addition to the proposed dog park at Mineral Wells, the Park Board will look to approve the plan for a Community Garden. If approved, it will go to the city council  for final approval. The garden would be fenced in and Oklahoma State University would be involved.

A Dog Park could very well be on its way to Guthrie.

Other items on the agenda include consideration to approve a contract with the Soccer Club, Highland Park trail signs, Boot Camp in Highland Park, Liberty Lake interim plan, a mission statement for the Park Board and consider approval of the new Park Board information packet.

Currently the Soccer Club leases the field, off of Academy road, with the City to run their youth program. If approved by the board, city council will then consider for final approval.

The interim plan at Liberty Lake is to begin to develop some rules and regulations that govern the use of the parks.

“We are working on reviewing the ordinance to give more authority to the Parks Board to create and change the rules out at the lake parks,” Mueller said. ” To do this, it would essentially take the rules out of ordinance form and make them subject to resolution approval by the Parks Board.”

In this case, there would need to be some interim rules in place so that there is not a period of time where rules do not exist at the Parks.

The meeting will conclude with announcements from staff and requests or comments from the members of the board.
