The Guthrie Park Board is looking for new members interested in giving freely of their time and talent. Serving on the Park Board is a respected civic responsibility that deals directly with the quality of life in our community. There are currently two openings on the board which meets every other month on the third Thursday beginning in January. Meetings are held in the evening at 6:30pm at Guthrie City Hall.

Guthrie Park Board members serve in an advisory capacity to the Guthrie City Council on matters pertaining to the properties maintained and managed by the City of Guthrie Parks Department employees. The Parks Department maintains over 400 acres of Park Land. This includes 6 parks and Guthrie Lake and Liberty Lake, 4 athletic fields covering approximately 20 square blocks in Cottonwood Flats in addition to Owens Field, Soccer Field and Kiwanis Field. In addition, they are also responsible for maintaining over 80 acres of city-owned cemetery land and 45 miles of highway rights-of-way. The Parks Department also maintains multiple properties in connection with our New Water Treatment Plant (and it’s stations and towers) and the Highland Park Pool.

Some of the issues that a Park Board member may consider are 1) the acquisition or disposal of public property for parks and recreation purposes; 2) the development of short and long range goals for parks and recreation, including the formulation of a Master Plan; 3) the beautification and enhancement of parks, including proposed capital improvements; 4) the creation, implementation and expansion of city sponsored recreation programs; and 5) the adoption, amendment and enforcement of rules, regulation, fees, charges and policies for and governing the use of city park properties and facilities and recreation programs.
