Hilarious, colorful and incredibly entertaining are all accurate descriptions of the charming, musical comedy, La Cage aux Folles, which will take stage at The Pollard Theatre beginning June 8th, 2012.
La Cage aux Folles is a wonderful piece of American theatre with a sweeping traditional score and non-traditional story, written by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Tony award-winning composer and lyricist, Jerry Herman. La Cage aux Folles centers around the relationship between two men, Georges and Albin, their fabulous, flamboyant transvestite nightclub and the romance their son falls into.
The story takes an interesting turn when Georges and Albin’s son, Jean-Michel falls in love and plans to marry a young girl whose parents are extremely conservative, moral activists. When the time comes to meet the family of the bride-to-be, Jean-Michel asks Georges to masquerade as “normal”. Georges reluctantly agrees, however, Albin has other plans with hilarious results.
The Pollard presents their show-stopping, talented cast of James Hughes as Georges, Michael James as Albin, and also features Michael Edsel, Brenda Williams, Jake DeTommaso, Emily Brown, Joshua McGowen, Wendy Evans and Timothy Stewart. La Cage aux Folles is directed by W. Jerome Stevenson, with musical direction by Todd Malicoate and choreography by Jennifer Rosson.
“This is a fun and charming show with great music and a message of family and tolerance that could not be more timely,” said show director W. Jerome Stevenson.
