Several Logan County-based churches, the Langston City Lions Club and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. partnered together to “Show Some LOVE” to residents of the Oklahoma City Ronald McDonald House on Valentine’s Day!! The management and staff of the charitable residence received the donation and expressions of hope for the families with as much love as they were given.
Beta Phi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority led a community-wide collection of ‘Wish List’ items for the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC.) This well-known charity provides “a home away from home every day of the year for families of seriously ill or injured children receiving medical treatment in the Oklahoma City area.” Their November Wish List emphasized the need for household cleaning, detergent, and dishwashing items; travel size toothpaste and hair products, combs and brushes and hand sanitizer; copying paper for the office; and a variety of food items.
Members of the congregations of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and Salters Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church both of Langston, OK, and the Union Baptist Church in Seward, OK as well as the members of the Langston City Lions Club provided household cleaning products and hygiene items, some snack bars and Folgers coffee. The Langston City-based Church of God in Christ made a financial donation directly to the RMHC House for the purchase of fresh and frozen foods.
On Valentine’s Day members of Zeta Phi Beta delivered the trunk load of donations and the check to the 3rd floor of Garrison Tower at 940 NE 13th Street in Oklahoma City. Additionally, the visitors share notes expressing love, support and prayers from the donors for the parents, family and friends, as well as their beloved children who are undergoing medical procedures. Met by House Manager Emily Howell, the group had the opportunity to tour the beautiful, well-appointed, home-style hostel. The Zeta Oklahoma State Director Curtisia Battle and the Langston-based Zeta Chapter President Dorine Ellerby engaged in an in-depth discussion of the goals, objectives, provisions, needs and future growth plans of RMHC-OKC.
The visiting group members all expressed what a loving environment the House provides and how awesome the experience of delivering the donations and “love notes” had been, especially on Valentine’s Day. Zeta State Director Battle assured House Manager Howell that “WE will be back!” She indicated that this would be more than a Valentine’s Day annual visit.
Much appreciation goes to President Joshua Busby of the Langston City Lions Club, The Church of God in Christ, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (Pastor Everett E. Mack, Sr.), Salters Chapel AME Church (Pastor Earl Williams) all of Langston, and Union Baptist Church (Pastor Andrew Gilstrap) of Seward and the members of their organizations/congregations who so generously donated goods and funds. Those gifts help Ronald McDonald House to help parents concentrate on helping their children heal! Other Logan County congregations and organizations that have not already done so are encouraged to support this great, loving, good for the heart effort.
