The oldest living 89er Queen, Eddie Lou Halsey, also nicknamed the “button lady” has passed away.
Halsey was crowned the 89er Queen in 1939 at the age of 14. She later served as the queen during the golden anniversary and a parade marshal (2011).
Halsey made it a routine to ride in the parade before and after being crowned the queen.
After serving as the queen, she started working on the committee to design and sell the buttons that were sold each year to raise money for the annual parade.
Halsey passed away Monday morning at the age of 93.
Services are pending with Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
