The Guthrie High School wrestling team and the Coyle High School boy’s basketball team were recognized Tuesday morning at the State Capitol.
State Representative Garry Mize introduced the wrestling team to the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Afterwards, the team was introduced to the Oklahoma Senate by Senator Chuck Hall.
The Bluejays, led by head coach Justin Stevens, were named the 2018-19 academic state champions in Class 5A.
The team finished with a grade point average of 3.63.
Joining the Bluejays wrestlers were Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson, Guthrie High School Principal Chris LeGrande and Athletic Director Jon Chappell.
The Bluejacket basketball team was introduced in the House by Rep. John Talley and the Senate by Senator Hall.
The ‘Jackets finished with a 3.82 GPA.
“Super proud of this group of great athletes that also excel in the classroom,” said head coach Josh Sumrall, who also serves as the school district’s superintendent.
