Schools placed on lockout following gun shots

Updated on April 25 at 2 p.m. Alleged gun for vehicle trade lands one in jail

Guthrie Public Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic School were placed under a lockout Tuesday morning after gun shots were heard within blocks of an elementary school.

Central Elementary, Fogarty Elementary and Guthrie Junior High School were placed in a lockout condition at approximately 10:45 this morning after a school resource officer heard gun shots, along with several other citizens who called 911.

Within minutes, police found two males in the 200 block of W. College (near Fogarty Elementary). After their investigation, one person was taken into police custody.

According to police, the two met up to trade a gun for a vehicle.

To prove the gun worked, one man allegedly fired the weapon into a hill. Police found eight rounds at the scene.

Turns out the serial numbers had been removed from the gun.

The man is now looking at multiple felony charges.

Schools resumed their normal security conditions at approximately 11 a.m.

The lockout condition requires all students to be inside the school and all perimeter doors are checked to verify they are secure. Regular classroom instruction continues during this condition.
