Flood waters moves little league baseball games

The Guthrie Little League Baseball season at the Cottonwood Flats is no more. The remainder of the ball season will be played at various sites.

With heavy rains last month and the flooding of the Cottonwood Creek, all games have been moved to Owen’s Park and Kiwanis Field.

The season is scheduled to wrap up on Friday, June 14.

Flood waters damaged the outfield fences. In addition, debris was caught in the back stops and the flow of water added additional dirt on the fields.

Roads leading to the fields remain under water.

There have been several discussions and meetings of a proposed sports complex (baseball and softball) and moving the fields out of the flood plain.

Many have agreed on adding a sports complex, but a funding mechanism for the complex has not been found. City leaders are considering grants, donations, additional city sales tax and a possible additional increase hotel-motel tax.
