The land is expected to be used for a future school site.

The land was sold at public auction by Bank 7 through Lippard Auctioneers of Enid. The total purchase price including auctioneer’s premium was $264,000.

Full approval of the purchase is expected at the September 9 meeting of the Guthrie Board of Education.

The school district says the expenditure will come from building funds.

“The purchase of this land gives the district many options to address future needs,” Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson said in a release. “We are attempting to be proactive rather than reactive. The location is very favorable for proximity to residential growth of the district and includes full access to utilities.”

Board of Education President Tina Smedley says the district is looking toward the future.

“With the purchase of this property today we are able to realize another step in our vision for Guthrie Public Schools,” Smedley said. “We are excited to set the groundwork for great things to come for our future Bluejays.”

The property has Hwy 33 frontage and is just west of Sonic at the corner of Battle Ave. and Heather Rd. Although this property does carry some flood area on the very south end of the property, the terrain raises elevation to the north with a very large portion of the property out of the floodway.
