Homecoming continues to be one of the biggest weeks of the year for Guthrie and Guthrie High School. Highlighting the week this year, GHS will honor the 2007 Class 5A state championship football team.
Homecoming will be celebrated in Guthrie from Oct. 2 – 7 with the Bluejays hosting Northwest Classen on Friday, Oct. 6 inside Jelsma Stadium. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
At halftime, the 2007 football team will be recognized.
That season the Jays finished with a perfect 14-0 season to claim at that time the school’s second state championship. Many regard the team as the best ever to be assembled in Guthrie and several media outlets named the 2007 team as one of the best Oklahoma high school football teams of all-time.
The Jays offense scored 764 points (54.5 average), including scoring 61-plus points in eight games. Meanwhile, the Jays defense shut-out seven opponents and only allowed 89 points (6.3 average) all season.
Jays head football coach Kelly Beeby invites all the team members to return and be honored. If the former GHS players have any questions they can contact the high school at 405-282-5906.
