Guthrie High School will be well represented when the college bowl games kick off here in December. Three BlueJays will be playing in bowl games, and for two Jays it will be their final turn in a college uniform.

Kye Staley OstateGuthrie alums Kye Staley (2008), Donte’ Foster (2009) and Kentrell Brothers (2011) have concluded the 2013 regular season and all three held big impacts for their team’s success.

Staley, a fullback for Oklahoma State, was granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA and made the most of it in 2013. His Cowboys (10-2) are now preparing for the Cotton Bowl (Jan. 3) and the Missouri Tigers. In 2010 and 2011, Staley was named to the Coaches Second Team All Big XII and will have another shot in 2013.

Staley finished the season with two touchdowns with both coming in the home win over Baylor, but is best known for his big blocks for the Cowboy running game.

In a social media post Staley said, “It’s been a pleasure being a Cowboy, and a pleasure to have coach (Mike) Gundy as a coach. I’ll always and forever bleed orange. Love my university and the memories it gave me, some good and some bad. I’ve grown up in so many ways, its been fun, and its been a blessing. Cotton Bowl bound in Jerry’s world, can’t wait! Let’s finish this the right way.”

Donte FosterFoster will be leaving Ohio University as the school’s all-time touchdown receiver. Foster posted a single-season career best 858 receiving yards. He also hauled in six touchdowns, giving him a school-record 20 touchdowns for his career.

This season, Foster surpassed the 100-yard plateau on three separate occasions. Earlier this year over a three-game stretch, Foster totaled 28 receptions for 383 yards and four touchdowns.

Foster and his Bobcats are set to take on East Carolina in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s St. Petersburg, in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Dec. 23 at 2 p.m.

KentrellBrothers, a red-shirt sophomore, was a main ingredient in the Missouri defense that saw the program reached the SEC championship game.

At linebacker, Brothers, who played in all 13 games, finished the regular season with 65 tackeles and was fourth on the team in stops. He finished third in interceptions with three.

Brothers and the Tigers now have their eyes set of the Cotton Bowl and Oklahoma State on Jan. 3.
