Two additional earthquakes push overnight total to eight

Update at 9 a.m. — With six earthquakes in just over two hours, the odds of more striking seemed bound to happen. And they did. Two more quakes hit near the Guthrie area to push the overnight total to eight.

The last two tremors struck within 25 minutes of each other at 5:56 and 6:21 a.m.

The first quake registered a 3.5 while the second measured in at a 3.6 magnitude.

Both were east of I-35 and north of Charter Oak Rd. near Pine St and Midwest Blvd.

Original story at 2:53 a.m. — It had been relatively quiet on the earthquake scene over the last few weeks, but that quickly changed with six quakes in just over two hours.

  1. For the last two weeks there have been small tremors not just the last few hours. I live off of Forrest Hills just east of Broadway. Yesterday we had several. Please look into this to make the article more accurate.

    • This is based off of registered earthquakes. There were indeed two on June 18 that did register (3.3 and 2.9).

Overall, registered earthquakes have slowed down in the last several weeks in the county.

  2. Not all earthquakes are recorded by the USGS…. So as far as any documented earthquakes from the USGS listings, the article is accurate.

  3. ah, thought I felt a shudder here in Crescent.. I noted the time when it happened so.. it was the 3rd one, of course

  4. I wonder why everyone is saying this is inaccurate. The article says “it has been RELATIVELY quiet on the earthquake scene over the past few weeks”. This article does not state that there have not been earthquakes the past few weeks. …

  5. Kim must have a spur in her foot about this site. Article is not a scientific publication. Come on Kim! Relax – move if you need to.

  6. I felt the 4.2 quake at 12:10 and it lasted a full 1+ minute. We live at Hefner & MacArthur in OKC.

  7. We felt all 8 of them at our house. Broadway and Forrest hills area. No where’s close to any bodies of water.

  8. We are off of Charter Oak and felt every one of them. Even the ones that didn’t register! Too close for comfort!

  9. Which begs the question: Where is there an active injection well (legal OR illegal) in the vicinity?
