ADA downtown intersection improvements beginning July 14

As part of the CIP No. 2 Initiative, Growing Guthrie, approved by Guthrie voters in 2024, the City of Guthrie is moving forward with scheduled improvements to three key downtown intersections this summer. These enhancements are designed to enhance accessibility and safety for all users of sidewalks, crosswalks, and intersections, with a focus on ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

The three intersections identified for upgrades include: Oklahoma Avenue and Wentz Avenue, Oklahoma Avenue and 1st Street, Harrison Avenue and 1st Street.

Construction will be carried out one intersection at a time to minimize disruption, beginning with the Oklahoma and Wentz intersection on July 14th. As part of this project, the current signal light at this intersection will be removed and replaced with a four-way stop configuration.

Motorists, pedestrians, and business owners are encouraged to plan accordingly for temporary changes in traffic patterns and to exercise caution in the area during construction.

“We are excited to continue investing in Guthrie’s infrastructure thanks to CIP #2 funding sources,” said City Manager Eddie Faulkner. “These intersection improvements are a meaningful step toward ensuring our downtown is safe and accessible for everyone.”
