Doug and Nancy Powell would be honored to have you participate in the 6th Annual Kale Powell M.T.X.E. Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament.
Because of the generosity, this foundation will be able to award scholarships to deserving 2014 seniors at Guthrie High School.
This scholarship is open to any GHS senior who plans on attending any college or trade school. The scholarship is based on life experiences and for the student who has overcome hardships, whether that be injuries, a medical diagnosis, or life’s hard knocks.
The golf tournament will be held Saturday, June 8 at Cimarron National Golf Course with registration beginning at 10:30 a.m. The shotgun start is slated for noon.
The entry fee is $280 for a team of four an includes: fee, golf cart, range balls and much more. In addition, pizza will be served on the course.
A silent auction will also be held following the tournament along with a dinner and live entertainment on the patio.
Kale Powell was 16 years old when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a blood cancer.
A broken bone in the Homecoming football game was the only way the family found the disease. Kale literally went from the playing field to the children’s cancer ward the same night.
The family is very proud of how Kale handled the difficulties dealt him and how he began his journey with his head held high. Kale insisted that his treatments and bone marrow transplants be scheduled around graduation. He entered the hospital for the last time four days after graduating in May of 2006.
Kale died July 6, 2006 at the age of 18.
The family is very passionate about keeping Kale’s memory alive. With your help, through this scholarship, they will be able to continue to recognize special young men and women who have shown Mental Toughness and given Xtra Effort to accomplish their goals in life. Those individuals, who understand, like Kale did, what it means to “Live for the moment, not tomorrow, or next week. Live for this moment.”
