At 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 the Logan County Fairgrounds is the place to be for the opportunity to bid on a wonderful array of fantastic auction items. Following the annual Chuck Wagon Feast, Dennis Ochs will take center stage and kick off the traditional “’89er Live Auction.”
This year Patty Hazlewood and her committee have assembled a fine arrangement of western art and specialty items for both the live auction as well as the silent auction.
“We are so blessed in this community that we have individuals and businesses that are supporting the ‘89er Celebration through donations to these auctions. This year we have several numbered prints by Charles Russell as well as two special historical depictions of oil wells, such a key part of our great Oklahoma past and present. We have a saddle for the horse enthusiasts, OSU, OU and Thunder baskets for the sports enthusiasts, and musical instruments for the musicians.”
Patty went on to say “We have a fantastic basket that includes an Apple IPOD, a coffee machine, raspberry ketones and premier nutrition supplements. All in all we will have over 40 items on the silent auction and at least 15 on the live auction.” All the proceeds from these auctions go to support the ‘89er Celebration and Parade.
The Chuck Wagon Feast kicks off the ‘89er Week and starts at 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Come enjoy brisket, sausage and all the trimmings. Miss Oklahoma, 2011, Miss Betty Thompson, will perform and be available for pictures and autographs.
Watch a “John Wayne Spectacular” at the free family movie shown at the Post Office right after the Chuck Wagon Feast. A huge family focused carnival comes to town Wednesday thru Saturday with over 70 craft and food vendors lining the streets of downtown Guthrie.
Youth All Star baseball teams from Edmond and Guthrie face off on Thursday at 5PM at Squires Field in downtown Guthrie, followed by the traditional Old Timer Ball Game with period uniforms and equipment. 6 p.m. Friday finds over 200 classic cars parked on Oklahoma Avenue in downtown Guthrie for the spectacular “Geezers and Gassers” event.
Friday and Saturday nights feature a rip roaring bronco busting rodeo at the fairgrounds starting at 7:30. The “Stake Your Claim” 5K run is set for Saturday morning just before the “Largest Parade in Oklahoma” marches through Downtown Guthrie at noon.
‘89er Week is extended this year with the “Concert in the Park” featuring the Byron Berline Band and the Kyle Dillingham and Horseshoe Road Band, Sunday 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Mineral Wells Park.
