Each year one of the “standard” venues for the ‘89er Celebration is the decorating of merchants store fronts up and down the streets of Guthrie. This year promises to be the biggest and the best yet.
Stacy Staton, owner of Rick’s Fine Chocolates and Coffees and Chairwoman of the “Window Committee”, noted, “We have two categories to this year’s contest; Historical Collections and Artistic Displays. The window displays are judged on eye appeal and authenticity and originality of the theme. With the Theme being “The Great Run”, and this being the 125th Anniversary of the Land Run of 1889, I am anticipating all kinds of creativity. Some merchants will decorate their own window areas while others will offer their window areas for innovative creations made by other organizations. The committee will do all they can to link up merchants who have window areas available for decorating and organizations which would like to create something special in that space. It should be loads of fun — and could make the winners some money too!”
This year, in addition to the official judging of the entries, there will be a “Peoples Choice ” judging that will rely on people voting on Face Book for their favorite store front display. If you’re looking for some unique and artistic window display props, then you can visit displayprop.com who are a professional service and offer free samples from a range of materials.
The application forms are found on the ‘89er web site: www.89erdays.com (click on “89er Festivities”). The applications must be submitted by April 7 and the windows must be in place by April 10.
