“I am extremely pleased with the results from this year,” Guthrie head coach Jeff Ball said about his 8th grade football squad, who finished third in conference play.
The Jays finished with a 6-2 record and ended their season by winning the final three games of the season, including Super Saturday’s game with Harrah, 18-6.
“We had great kids with great attitudes who worked hard,” Ball said. “I feel we were playing our best football at the end of the year and would have loved an opportunity to play Shawnee and Deer Creek again,” Ball said referring to their only two losses of the season.
Ball was not only pleased on the gridiron, but in the classroom as well with his team.
“The most important thing this year that these 8th graders really achieved in was the classroom,” he said. “We had very few kids on the ineligible list and their grades were much better this year and they grew up a lot in that area,” Ball said.
On the game field and practice field, Ball was pleased with the effort.
“They will fight and you always know that they gave it all on the football field. Our offensive and defensive line was an area of concern to start the season, but they did a great job. They are a great group of guys and I enjoyed having the opportunity to coach them,” Ball concluded.
Ball said all the coaches, including Coach Rice, Coach Porter, Coach Perring, Bryan Couch and Seth Morgan did a great job.
Ball added one more thank you to the banks for the money they contributed to get the new locker room at Faver.
Im proud of these guys they are awesome. I cant wait to see them play next year. I think Coach Watkins is gonna be impressed by them. Good job Coaches
