Academy cadets investigates mock crime scenes

The crime scene looked as real as it could outside of a Guthrie hotel, but turns out it was a mock scene as the Logan County Sheriff’s Office continue to educate over 20 men and women in their reserve officer academy.

Sheriff's OfficeWith crime scene tape flapping in the wind, tied around Sheriff vehicles at the Interstate Motel, three rooms were turned into an investigate scene as the training deputies learned the valuable lessons of searching and collecting evidence.

Reserve officers work the same as volunteers, but have the same abilities as a deputy or police officer such as making arrests and writing citations. They can be called up at anytime, but mainly are used for emergency situations, special events, natural disasters or when their regular department may need extra help.

Once the course has been completed the cadets must complete a specific amount of hours with either a deputy or other officer and once the reserve officer has completed that training they are then able to patrol on their own.

On May 24, a graduation ceremony will take place at the American Legion building to honor the graduates. The time is set for 7 p.m.

Captain Richard Stevens, who helped with the training, wanted to thank the Interstate Motel for allowing them to use their rooms.
