  1. The neighborhood will be holding a candlelight vigil this evening at the cup-de-sac of Derby Lane at 7:00 p.m. (Sunday December 16). We invite you to bring blue balloons, a teddy bear, or a toy to be donated to a local toy drive.

May God bless this family during this difficult time, and may we come together as a community to support them.

  2. I can’t believe the aunt and uncle aren’t being charged with murder or manslaughter at least. Anyone irresponsible enough to let a gun — loaded and without trigger locks — into the hands of a three-year old should be in jail. This is not something that just happens, this is not normal. And no, the tragedy is not “punishment enough” if people continue through stupidity and negligence to treat deadly weapons so cavalierly that anything like this could happen ever. And no, this is exactly the time to talk about this, because it is a national crisis. And before you criticize me, are your guns locked in a safe? Are they unloaded? Do you have trigger locks? Have you taken any gun safety training?

  3. A national crisis? When did it become a national crisis? Last month, last year, 10 years ago? This is what is called a manufactured crisis. The fact is, there are more people killed by blunt force trauma from baseball bats and golf clubs than guns (source: ATF). However, there is not a crisis with objects that are blunt? There is no crisis, and your comments (being that there is no crisis) are inappropriate and unneccesary.

  4. Stephany, you are allowing your hee-haw Okie gun-totin’ ideology to muddle your thinking. That thing about baseball bats has been thoroughly debunked – last year firearms were responsible for 67.8% of homicides, blunt force weapons were 3.9%.(look it up: http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/baseballbats.asp). Where do you get your facts, from some yahoo redneck down at the local saloon? So you don’t think there’s any kind of problem when a crazy person mows down an elementary school full of kids? Or when people are too dumb to keep loaded guns out of the hands of three-year-olds? And that’s just considered bad luck, oh well, gee, what a turrible accident.
