As a teacher in the state of Oklahoma, Angela Moffitt-Jones says she has the first hand insight to the decline of education in the state.
“I have seen the impact of putting our children in worse conditions than prison inmates. We can no longer afford to put our children last. We must make our future a priority and continue to move our state forward into the future,” Moffitt-Jones said in a release.
Moffitt-Jones, 36, the youngest of four children and raised in Wellston, Oklahoma. She lived there as a housewife to her husband of 15 years, Kris Jones and stay-at-home mother of two children, Gabriella Moffitt and Ashton Jones until eventually becoming a substitute teacher for her alma mantra. It didn’t take long for her to fall in love with her students and decide to become a teacher herself.
Moffitt-Jones, running as a Democrat, went to college, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2014 with Bachelors of Arts in both English and Social Science at Ashford University. She was able to accomplish this while continuing to work as a substitute teacher and taking care of two small children at home.
After graduation, she became a teacher and went to work at Guthrie High School. She says she immediately fell in love with being a Bluejay and knew this was where she wanted to make her home. Angela then picked up her family, moved them from their hometown to Guthrie.
Currently, Moffitt-Jones is a teacher at GHS where she is finishing up her fourth year as a teacher. Her husband, Kristopher Jones (38) works at Defense Logistics Agency at Tinker Air Force Base. Gabriella Moffitt (16) is a student at GHS and is very active in choir and dance, loving all things music. Ashton Jones (14) is a student at Guthrie Junior High School and is a member of the basketball team and loves sports.
