A Guthrie house fire is now under investigation by the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office for arson.
The Guthrie Fire Department responded to a house fire early Saturday evening (6:27) at 1319 E. Perkins. Smoke was found billowing out once fire fighters reached the scene. The fire was maintained to one room and it did not break the ceiling.
The room suffered smoke and water damage.
“It appears that there was a break-in at the home and that the fire was intentionally set. There are no suspects at this time and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting GFD and Guthrie Police Department in the investigation,” Guthrie Fire Chief Eric Harlow said.
Each year, approximately 750 fire scenes are investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Office, of which one-half are ruled arson. An estimated $15 million worth of property is lost each year as a direct result of arson-related crimes.
The crime of arson carries a maximum of 35 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
