A personal injury collision occurred on Friday at approximately 1:24 p.m. at a residence near Simpson and Coltrane in Logan County. The incident involved a 2023 Polaris ATV driven by a 12-year-old male with three juvenile passengers.
The ATV, operated by the 12-year-old driver, overturned after making repeated left-hand turns at an unsafe speed, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. This resulted in the vehicle tipping onto its passenger side. Among the three passengers one suffered significant injuries.
The injured passenger, a 13-year-old, was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle when it overturned. Quick-thinking bystanders managed to right the ATV before emergency medical services arrived. The injured boy was transported by Miller EMS to OU Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted in fair condition with both internal and external trunk injuries.
The other two passengers, aged 13 and 14, as well as the driver, were not injured in the accident. Notably, only one of the passengers, a 14-year-old, was using a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Authorities have determined that the primary cause of the collision was unsafe speed. The driver was reported to be in an apparently normal condition at the time of the incident.
The names of the juveniles involved are being withheld due to their ages.
