The Guthrie BlueJays ran into a buzz saw in the Carl Albert Titans in the Class 5A state baseball tournament at L. Dale Mitchell Park at the University of Oklahoma.
Gavin LaValley recorded his sixth win for Carl Albert and moved hisTitans into the 5A state championship game with Deer Creek. LaValley tossed seven innings of shutout ball while striking out six, walking two and gave up two hits.
Guthrie collected a hit in the third and seventh innings, but could not put a true threat together. The Jays end their season at the state tournament for the second year in a row. On the year they were 31-8.
Carl Albert was sparked by Justin McGregor and Kadell Nguyen, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.
Carl Albert didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the fourth inning when it scored on a groundout by Corey Zangari and a two-run triple by Cameron Warren.
