Beeby contributes the year round conditioning to the football program as well as the athletes participating in other sports.

“It’s year round conditioning and training for us.”

Working out in helmets and shorts, the Jays worked on all three aspects of the game with defense, offense and special teams.

“You are limited what you can do in just t-shirts, but participation and enthusiasm was good,” the first year head man said. “We got a lot of teaching concepts in with special teams and Coach (Scott) Mick was able to get some offensive installation in. It was a good use of our time as far as a non-contact day.”

Beeby explained with over two dozen seniors graduating from last year’s state championship team, members of the 2014 squad will have to play multiple roles.

FootballThe BlueJays will continue to work out in helmets and shorts until Thursday. On Friday, teams around the state are allowed to practice in full pads for the first time. Guthrie will hit the practice field at 2:30 p.m.

With the overall good effort, Beeby says his team will not know where they are until next week.

“Everyone looks good on air. We will not know much until we get to Langston and take on Douglass and Tulsa Kelley, but for what a first day typically is — this was a pretty good one.”
