Bethany went up for good in the third, scoring two runs on a groundout by Brandon Ring and an RBI single by Kyle Bottger to give the Bronchos a 7-3 win over Guthrie.
The BlueJays (2-1) will attempt to get back in the win column on Friday afternoon as they host Oklahoma Christian School. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 inside Squires Field. Game can be heard on Guthrie Sports Page and Guthrie News Page.
One run in the top of the fifth helped the Jays close its deficit to 2-1. An RBI single by Jacob Chappell gave the Bluejays life. Finally, Bethany’s relief pitcher got Reed Roberts to fly out to end the threat.
Bethany (3-1) quickly matched Bluejays’ strong inning with a four-run inning of its own in the fifth. Bethany scored on an error, a sacrifice fly by Bottger, and a two-run double by Brandon Clay.
After pushing across two runs in the top of the sixth, Bluejays faced just a 6-3 deficit. An RBI double by Rowdy Reihs and a RBI groundout by Jeremy Wallis triggered Guthrie’s comeback. Bethany stopped the rally after Bottger got Chappell to ground out.
