Bids to be considered for construction of new school in special meeting

The Guthrie Board of Education has called for a special meeting on Thursday evening. The board will discuss and consider awarding the contract for construction of Charter Oak Elementary.

The special meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. inside the Administration Building at 802 E. Vilas.

According to a bid summary sheet released by the school district, 12 bids were received from construction companies with six companies electing not to place a bid.

The new school, which will be constructed to the east of the intersection of Douglas Blvd. and Charter Oak Road in southern Logan County. Related article: School board names new school in southern Logan County

The lowest base bid received was $9,123,000 from W.L. McNatt and Company based out of Oklahoma City. The highest bid came in at $12,400,00 from Cherokee CRC based in Tulsa.

In addition to the base bid, the school district requested bids for parking, metal panels, air sound panels, basketball court and water vapor.

The overall lowest bid came in by W.L. McNatt at $9,284,500. See graph below.

Patrons of Guthrie Public Schools overwhelmingly approved a $16.2 million bond issue on May 12, 2015. One of the largest items contained in the issue was construction of the elementary school.

BOE to consider CFO and Special Services positions

With the announcement of the upcoming retirements, the Guthrie school district will consider employment of a Chief Financial Officer and Director of Special Services.

Last month, Asst. Superintendent Dennis Schulz, who overlooks the school district’s finances, and Director of Special Education Eldona Woodruff announced they would be retiring in June. Related article: Two Guthrie administrators among four to retire from school system

The board will consider taking action on employment on both positions on Thursday.
