The search continues for a new head coach to lead the Guthrie Lady Jays softball program following the resignation of Booker Blakley. Blakley’s departure was officially accepted by the Guthrie Board of Education during their Monday night board meeting, which also included relinquishing his teaching duties.
Blakley, who informed his team of his decision to step down on April 2nd, expressed deep appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the players who contributed to the program’s success during his tenure. Under his guidance, the Lady Jays achieved remarkable milestones, including four state tournament appearances, with each year seeing the team’s progress culminating in a state runner-up finish last fall.
Blakley has accepted another position outside of the Guthrie school district.
Reflecting on his six seasons with the team, Blakley emphasized the players’ integral role in elevating the program to unprecedented heights. With a commendable record of 123 wins and 66 losses, including four state tournament qualifications, Blakley leaves behind a legacy of excellence and accomplishment.
“I firmly believe that Guthrie is a softball school and will continue to be a softball school,” Blakley remarked, expressing confidence in the program’s bright future. Despite his departure, Blakley remains a steadfast supporter of the Lady Jays, eagerly anticipating the exciting developments that lie ahead for the program.
As the search for a new head coach commences, the Guthrie Lady Jays softball program remains poised for continued success, fueled by a tradition of dedication, talent, and a shared commitment to excellence on and off the field.
