The First Christian Church and Oklahoma Blood Institute came together for a blood drive in the memory of Guthrie civic leader Jon Gumerson, who passed away on Saturday.
Gumerson, 76, contacted the West Nile Virus this past summer and battled to recover from symptoms of the virus.
His family, church family and friends honored his memory with a blood drive.
The drive was Sunday morning inside the Fellowship Hall at First Christian Church, where 52 people donated blood and several more came out to show their support. A total of 40 pints of blood was received.
Staff members gave participants a gift for all those who donated their time and efforts.
Gumerson, an enormous University of Oklahoma supporter, held many titles in Guthrie, including Mayor, and was an instrumental influence with organizations throughout the city.
Funeral Services for Gumerson will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 11th at First Christian Church with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.

So very very sorry to hear this sad news. I grew up and graduated from GHS and Jon was a fixture in Guthrie and will be sorely missed. RIP Jon.
FYI: He wasn’t knows as Dr. Seuss. He dressed up as the Cat in the Hat and read to children and went to events.
