Blue Belle Saloon to host family benefit for Sooner Volunteer Fire Department

Did you know that 71 percent of firefighters in the United States are volunteers? If you live outside of city limits, chances are you are protected by volunteer fire departments for fires and EMS/first responder medical help. That’s right, volunteers that put their lives on the line to help our community.

Sooner Volunteer Fire Dept serves south central Logan County (south-east rural Guthrie) and is funded by Title 18. This means that while the department does receive a share of Logan county sales tax dollars that make up about two-thirds of the department’s budget, the rest is made up from fundraisers, dues, and grants. In other words, fundraisers make a big difference in the department’s ability to respond to emergencies. It does no good to have volunteers ready without proper training or a fire truck without fuel to make it go.

To raise awareness and money, Sooner Volunteer Fire Department is holding at benefit on Thursday, April 4 at the Blue Belle Saloon in Guthrie. It is a fun way to help out your community. Simply come in and eat anytime from 5pm to 8 p.m. There will be entertainment, prizes for the kids, and auction/raffle items to purchase!

The historic Blue Belle Saloon at 224 W. Harrison in Guthrie, OK originally opened in 1889 complete with a bordello upstairs as any good western saloon would have. It even had a western movie star as a former bartender, Tom Mix! The Blue Belle has recently been re-opened and though they kept the historical charm and the Wild West flavor, this time they have included something for whole family! From tasty dishes (fantastic fried chicken) to live skits . . . tap your toes to live musicians and enjoy a step back in time.
