The Guthrie Bluejays wasted no time taking control Thursday night in Oklahoma City, cruising past the Western Heights Jets 56-0 for their sixth straight win. Guthrie improved to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in District 5A-2 play, while the Jets remain winless.

The Jays jumped out to a 42-0 halftime lead after scoring four times in the first quarter. A running clock was put in place before the second half even began.

Despite consistently working with a short field, Guthrie still racked up 296 yards of total offense — 196 of those coming on the ground. The Bluejay defense dominated, holding the Jets to just 37 total yards.

Western Heights’ biggest play of the night ended in disaster when senior Zane Thomas stripped the ball just before the goal line, running it back deep into Jets territory.

Eight different Bluejays found the end zone, with Amare Watson scoring twice — once on a 3-yard run and again on a 14-yard reception. Other touchdowns came from Elijah Smith, Corrie Carlock, Quadri Muhammad, Collin Walters, Demetrious Thomas, and Elijah Payne.

Now, Guthrie turns its focus to a major district matchup this Friday as they host the undefeated Altus Bulldogs (7-0) for Senior Night inside Jelsma Stadium. Both teams are tied atop the district standings at 4-0, alongside Carl Albert, each with the maximum 60 district points.

Altus features standout freshman quarterback Jeymon Reed, who has already broken school passing records. The winner of Friday’s clash will be in prime position to secure a first-round home playoff game.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., with Senior Night ceremonies taking place before the game.
