BOCC agrees to negotiate settlement in vehicle collision lawsuit

In a case filed in August 2021, Sebastian Pasillas brought a lawsuit against Jackson Wallace and the Logan County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC), alleging personal injury from a vehicle collision on January 19, 2020.

Pasillas, the plaintiff, has reached a possible settlement with the Logan County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) in a lawsuit stemming from a vehicle collision that occurred on January 19, 2020.

The case, filed in August 2021 in Logan County, involved allegations of negligence and unsafe roadway maintenance.

Pasillas claimed he suffered personal injuries and was unable to conduct his business after being thrown from the vehicle driven by Wallace.

The incident took place on County Road 61 and Coltrane Road when the bridge gave way, causing the vehicle to fall into a creek, according to a court document. Pasillas asserted that Wallace failed to maintain proper attention to the roadway and that the BOCC neglected to ensure the road’s safety.

After a 23-minute executive session during Wednesday’s commissioners’ meeting, District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy motioned, on counsel’s advice, to negotiate the settlement with Pasillas. District 1 Commissioner Mark Sharpton seconded the motion, and it was unanimously approved by the commissioners, including District 2 Commissioner Charlie Meadows.

Details of the proposed settlement were not immediately available.
