BOE set to vote to add volleyball at GHS

Pictured is a Guthrie Junior High School volleyball match against Carl Albert this past August. This was the first home match for the first year program.

After a successful season of junior high volleyball, Guthrie Public School is set to move the sport to the list of high school athletics.

Last May, the Guthrie Board of Education approved adding volleyball at the junior high level. Now, the board is set to vote to allow high school athletes to compete.

The recommendation comes from Athletic Director Jon Chappell, who gathered student surveys and interest in adding the sport.

The BOE will discuss the action at Monday’s meeting inside the Administration Building.

If approved, Chappell is recommending the girl’s program compete in junior varsity action for the 2023-2024 season before transitioning to varsity matches beginning in 2024.
