It was an usual Tuesday when two Guthrie brothers found money blowing across a business parking lot. What easily could have been an easy pay day, the brothers went straight to the police department.
Marshall Field, 25, and Andrew Field, 22, were grabbing some drinks on their lunch break at Murphy USA in the 1600 block of S. Division when all of sudden the flow of cash was seen flying through the parking lot.
The brothers battled the winds and gathered up the dollar bills. A short time later, they found an opened wallet with a man’s identification inside. After searching, they were unable to locate the owner.
The brothers took the lost items directly to the Guthrie Police Department, who was able to locate the owner and safely returned the money and wallet.
Marshall Field, who is a volunteer firefighter with the Sooner Volunteer Fire Department, said they did not even count the money when asked how much they were able to pick up.
“We did not even count it. It was just the right thing to do,” he said. “It’s a part of who I am and what I do.”
Police officials said a total of $349 was returned along with a lot of respect for the two brothers who simply did the right thing when no one else was looking.
