Mayor Chuck Burtcher said his final goodbye to a crowded city council chamber as the 62nd City Council members were sworn in on Tuesday evening.
Burtcher, who served six years as Mayor, adjourned his final city council meeting, but before he did he recognized the 61st city council. Soon after City Manager Sereniah Breland honored the Mayor with the keys to the city.
“I could not be mayor without the people. They make my job easy.” Burtcher said. “I really tried to carry the first capital of the state of Oklahoma high above everybody. I love this community.”
Each council member – Gaylord Z. Thomas, Mary Coffin, John Wood, Trey Ayers and Sheri Mueller were given their framed $1 bill which is the amount each council person makes per term. Patty Hazelwood attended the workshop meeting, but according to several witnesses became irate before the start of the council meeting and walked out.
After the recognition, Mayor Mark Spradlin was sworn in as the city’s new mayor by Special District Judge Robert L. Hudson. Soon after, Jeff Taylor, Sharyl Padgett, Thomas and Wood were sworn in by the judge.
The first line of work was to appoint council members to various committees. Thomas and Ayers were selected to the Finance Committee and Coffin to hold the chairman position. Padgett and Taylor were voted to serve on the Street Committee and Wood will be the chairman. Wood was also selected to represent the ACOG Board of Directors, Guthrie Transportation Authority and was voted as the Vice Mayor.
In the final vote of the council on the evening, council denied a special use permit to allow a manufactured home in a R-1 area zone.
“Patty Hazelwood attended the workshop meeting, but according to several witnesses became irate before the start of the council meeting and walked out.”
What is the deal with all of this?
Was told she wanted to make public comments in her final council meeting, but that was not on the agenda (for any of the 61st council members). This apparently did not settle well.
I guess it was a good thing it wasn’t on the agenda. I wonder what she would have said.
