Update on Friday, April 15 — 12 candidates file for Logan County offices; 7 seek Sheriff’s position
On day one of the filing period for Logan County offices, six candidates filled out the required paperwork, including three for Sheriff.
Filing started Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. inside the Logan County Election Board Office. Candidates still have Thursday and Friday (8 a.m – 5 p.m.) to file.
Four incumbents filed on day one, including Court Clerk Cheryl Smith, County Clerk Troy Cole, Sheriff Jim Bauman and District 2 Commissioner Mike Pearson.
So far the only incumbent to receive challengers is Bauman.
Both John Marshall and Robert Hardee announced their candidacy for sheriff.
All six candidates listed Republican for their political party.
Candidates have two options when filing for office with the Logan County Election Board. The first option is to pay a $200 fee. The second option is to collect four percent of signatures from registered voters.
Pearson was the lone candidate, in the county and in the state, to turn the petition in with signatures from Republicans within the district. Election board officials said Pearson needed 180 signatures and turned in approximately 300.
On the state level, the Oklahoma State Election Board reported the most filings since 2004. Rep. John Pfeiffer (R-Orlando) will seek re-election after filing today for District 38. Rep. Kevin Wallace (R-Wellston) seeks re-election for District 32. No other candidate filed on day one.
With Rep. Lee Denney’s term expiring, District 33 will have a new representative. Greg Babinec of Cushing and Connie Parker of Stillwater filled for office. Both are listed as Republicans.
If there are two or more candidates to file for an office, a primary election will be held June 28.
