Carl Albert ends losing streak to the Jays in a rout

After a back-and-forth first half, Carl Albert erupted for three scores to start the third quarter. All three scores came before the Guthrie Bluejays ever took a single offensive snap.

93.7 FMThe Titans were finally able to erase a six-game losing streak in six seasons to the Bluejays with a dominating second half to finish with a 45-7 win in Midwest City.

The Titans finish the game by scoring 39 unanswered points. The 38-point victory is the second largest in the series and is the worse defeat for a Guthrie team in 16 seasons.

Carl Albert improves to 4-0 overall, while the Jays dropped their second straight game and are now 2-2.

Carl Albert now leads the overall series (23-22) with the Jays.

With a 17-7 halftime lead, Carl Albert scored three times in a 1:27.

Titans started the second half with a 10 play drive capped by quarterback Johnny Bizzell’s 17-yard run. The Jays fumbled the ensuing kickoff, which Dadrian Taylor scored on the next play with a 20-yard run. Again, the Jays fumbled the kickoff and saw Bizzell spot Aaron Hill four plays later with a 13-yard passing score.

Just like that, 38-7.

The Jays improved the run game with 186 yards, but were unable to put a complete drive together on the night.

The lone Guthrie score came in the opening quarter when sophomore quarterback Jackson Waddell tucked the ball and took off for a sporty 69-yard run. Guthrie held a 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.

For the second straight game, the Jays piled up more accepted penalties than first downs.

For the first time since week one, the Jays will play inside Jelsma Stadium when they host McGuinness. The Irish have been picked by some to win the district. After a 7-7 game, the Irish took down Woodward 38-7 on Friday night to improve to 3-1.
