The Carl Albert softball program has been a dominant program over the last several years. The power-house program came to Guthrie on Tuesday and showcased their talents once more.
Carl Albert got out to a 4-1 first inning lead and never looked back and went on to a 12-1 six inning run-rule win. The Titans sweep the two game district series after winning 13-0 on Aug. 25 in Midwest City.
With the loss, Guthrie falls to 15-10 on the season and 8-3 in district play. Carl Albert improves to 23-3 overall and secures the district championship with a current 12-0 record.
Guthrie, who suffers their first home loss of the year (7-1), entered the game winners of five of their last six games, including a 3-1 record in Durant over the weekend with wins over Idabel, Byng and Dickinson. The lone loss came to the hands of Durant, 7-0, for the second time this season.
The Lady Titans struck first with four runs on four hits in their first at bat, including a leadoff homerun by Jolie Fish on the game’s second pitch. The Titans returned with two RBI doubles to take the early 4-0 lead.
In return, Guthrie was able to get their lone run in their first at bat when senior shortstop Madison Dutton singled in Trista LeGrande, who started the inning off by reaching on an error.
Carl Albert got back to work in the second inning. Fish connected on her second straight hit with a double, Audrie LaValley crushed a two-run, two-out homer to give the Titans a 6-1 advantage.
Already leading 7-1 after five innings, the Titans put the game away in the sixth inning with five runs.
Guthrie returns back home on Thursday for a key game with El Reno, who currently holds the second spot in the district standings. The top two finishers of the district will host regionals.
