Residents in the Guthrie are encouraged to use caution as a phone scam is circulating concerning storm damage to property owners.
The scammers appear to be targeting cell phones and are persistent to set up a time and date to assess property for storm damage on behalf of the homeowner’s insurance.
Seth Robbins with Terra Insure Group says the phone call is most likely an out of state scam to gain access to a person’s insurance information to file a claim without their knowledge.
“The only way someone will come assess your property is after you’ve filed your claim, or personally called a roofer,” Robbins said. If you have suffered storm damage, then you would be well advised to seek roofing repair services before more bad weather arrives. However, make sure that the company you deal with is above board and that you have contacted them, not the other way around. There are a variety of reliable and reputable roofing services that can aid with roof repair, similar to John McCarter Construction in the local and surrounding area. It is essential that you do your research into any roofing companies that you would like to use for any reason, so you won’t find yourself a victim of scammers.
The phone number displays as a Guthrie number (282-3950), but when the number is dialed back it returns as a disconnected number.
Robbins recommends calling your insurance agent, or a local reputable roofer if you suspect you may have damage.
