Celebrate Christmas Guthrie style

Bookmark and Share

Christmas is right around the corner and that means Guthrie’s Territorial Christmas Foundation is hard at work behind the scenes preparing for the annual celebration in downtown Guthrie.

Territorial ChristmasFor over twenty years, visiting Guthrie has been the most extraordinary way to celebrate the Christmas season.  “Territorial Christmas events are at the heart of Oklahoma’s traditional expression of the holidays,“ said Cherie Gordon, Chairman of the Foundation.   “We want to bring all the flavor of the Territorial Days and all the excitement of the Twenty-first century together.”

The Foundation is instrumental in bringing Christmas festivities to Guthrie to remind us of the good life in the territory and the seasonal celebrations of days gone by.  Following is a list of activities that will take place during Territorial Christmas 2014:

  • Lighted Christmas ParadeSaturday, November 29 – 6 p.m. Join us we inaugurate a new Territorial Governor and honor him or her with a Lighted Parade.  We’ll light the Territorial Christmas Tree and sing the carols you’ve come to love.  There will be a special appearance from the man in the red suit too.
  • Homes TourSaturday, December 13, 10a.m. – 4 p.m.  –  Tour our historic homes, churches and century old building, have a cup of Wassail and enjoy the hospitality of Guthrie residents who welcome you into their homes.
  • Victorian Walk EveningsSaturdays, December 6 & 13 – 5-9 p.m. – Stroll the streets on these two evenings as merchants decorate their windows with live scenes depicting Oklahoma during the Victorian Era. Entertainment and Christmas festivities designed to remind us of the seasonal celebrations of days gone by will be happening on the streets of Guthrie.

Gordon would like to thank everybody that participates and makes this celebration a success.  The committee is looking for parade entries and they need a couple more people to open their homes for the historic tour.

The Guthrie Territorial Christmas Foundation and the citizens of Historic Guthrie invite you and your family to join us in celebrating the Season in Oklahoma’s First Capital.  The Foundation does need your help to continue this legacy we’ve all come to enjoy.  Whether you’d like to make a monetary donation for advertising, participate in the lighted parade, showcase your Christmas décor for the homes tour, or involve your group or organization in a window display, you can help.
