Celebrate National Ice Cream Day thanks to President Reagan’s sweet proclamation

Thanks to President Reagan, we celebrate National Ice Cream Day every third Sunday in July, which falls on July 21 this year.

In 1984, Reagan wanted to commemorate a treat enjoyed by over 90 percent of the US population and decreed a day dedicated to ice cream. His proclamation not only celebrated the beloved dessert but also highlighted the importance of the dairy industry in America.

Reagan’s declaration also designated July as National Ice Cream Month, describing ice cream as “a nutritious and wholesome food enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States.” Since then, the holiday has sparked worldwide cravings and is traditionally celebrated year after year.

Americans continue to lead the world in ice cream consumption, indulging in an impressive 23 gallons per person annually. This beloved treat remains a staple in American culture, bringing joy and a sense of nostalgia to people of all ages.

Now, what flavor are you headed out to get?
