A longtime supporter of public education, Turpen’s wife, Susan, is a teacher in the Oklahoma City Public Schools, currently teaching Leadership at U. S. Grant High School.

Turpen toured Cotteral Elementary, Fogarty Elementary and Guthrie Junior High School. He spoke with students and teachers about their challenges with the current facilities.

According to GPS Superintendent, Dr. Mike Simpson, “We had a very enlightening walk through our buildings. Our students and staff were honest and forthcoming to Mr. Turpen about where we are facility wise. The energy he brings to a cause is infectious and he was impressed with the job our staff and students are doing as they make the best of a challenging situation with our buildings.”

Tickets to the Guthrie Education Foundation dinner may be purchased at BancFirst, Oklahoma State Bank or F & M Bank in Guthrie. Individual tickets are $100 and tables are available for sponsorship for $1250. Related story: Mike Turpen to headline Guthrie Educational Foundation fundraising event
