Chamber chat: Children’s Festival a success

Bookmark and Share

The Children’s Festival went off very well considering the heat. It was hard to tell how many children attended this year since they didn’t require everyone to register. I do know they gave away 1100 hot dogs and 740 hamburgers. This year families were asked to register if they needed help with school supplies; 540 families registered.

Chamber President Mary Coffin

I want to thank the businesses that helped under the big tent and some not under the big tent: John Vance Auto Group, Valir Health, Oklahoma Insurance Dept., Smart Start, Guthrie Public Library, Logan Community Services, Mercy Hospital Logan County,  Dutch Hinkle,  Simple Life Center, Guthrie Police Dept., Sooner Fire Dept. Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Guthrie Christian Church, Woodcrest Fire Dept. Helda Petterson and the Guthrie Fire Dept.  Guthrie Job Corps had fourteen students help with security and parking both evenings!

Our next Educational Series will be the Pride program, taught by Cathy James from the OSU Extension office. We shortened the four hour program to a two hour program. It will be from 1p.m. to 3p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14th. If you have employees that interact with tourists on a daily basis, I recommend sending them through this program. It will benefit your business and the community.  Give us a call to RSVP at 282-1947.

The state of Oklahoma is offering one tax free weekend event and it’s this weekend August 3rd through the 5th.  It applies to clothing and shoes and is intended to coincide with back to school shopping, when many parents stock up on kids’ clothing and footwear.

Logan Community Services is having their third annual Rubber Ducky Race at the Highland Park Pool. By sponsoring a duck you could win as much as two hundred dollars if your duck reaches the other side of the pool. There is a kid’s fun fair right after the race. For more information call 282-5524.

The repetitive heat has made it very dangerous to be outside for long periods of time, please be careful. This week’s chamber coffee is hosted by Owens Art Place Museum located at 1202 E. Harrison; we begin at 9:30a.m. Everyone is welcome! Have a great week!
