Chamber Chat: Food banks need your support with holiday season

Bookmark and Share

Greetings! I can’t believe the holidays are already approaching. It is a great time of year to think about helping the food banks and shelters with food and warm clothes. Just to give you some figures, the Regional Food Bank distributed over two million pounds of food and product to Logan County residents in 2013 that equals a retail value of almost four million dollars. Fourteen point four percent of Logan County population does not have the means to obtain food other than relying on the Regional Food Bank.

Six schools, Central, Cotteral, Coyle, Crescent, Fogarty and GUS supplied food through the Backpack program and served one hundred and eighty nine students throughout the program. DHS Pantry boxes served thirty four Logan County residents. A one dollar donation to the Regional Food Bank provides five meals to hungry families. Partner agencies of the Regional Food Bank in Logan County are New Horizons LCARC, Logan Community Services, Crescent Assembly of God, God’s Food Bank and Hands of Jesus.
