It has been a story book career for Landry Chappell at Guthrie High School.
The four-year player for the Guthrie BlueJay football program finished his story book career by holding the 2011 Class 5A State Championship trophy. He also finished as the all-time leading tackler in Guthrie school history.
Chappell piled up 164 tackles in his senior campaign to lead all of Class 5A. In his junior year, in 2010, he also was in on more tackles by finishing with 178.
In his four seasons, Chappell collected 587 tackles, 24 sacks and three interceptions.
The 12 sacks, in 2011, lead Class 5A and was near the top across the state.
In 2oo9, sophomore season, Chappell finished with 170 tackles in his freshmen season concluded with 75.
The senior defensive leader played in 12 post season games and 52 games total. He averaged 11.2 tackles per game.
Chappell, along with Bryan Dutton, became Guthrie’s first state championship wrestler since 1992 when he took the 215-pound crown in 2011. In addition, Chappell is a stand-out on the diamond and is a top candidate to achieve all-state recognition in 2012.
Chappell has signed to wrestle for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Kid’s got talent. You’ll have to re-write this after this senior campaign on the mat and diamond. (and you might want to save plently of space on this webpage for Dutton’s after next season/his senior year, LOL!)
I’d like to see these guys bring a baseball title home more than anything really. 1989 seems too far away for sure!
