Charter Oak Elementary School students will soon be returning to campus with some exciting new additions to their physical education opportunities thanks to a major boost in grant funding.
Over the summer, the school received $50,000 in grant awards from the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET), Healthy Schools Oklahoma, and the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s Competitive Physical Education Program Grant.
Charter Oak physical education teacher Aaron Harbin shared the updates in a social media post, expressing her gratitude and excitement over the equipment upgrades made possible through the funding. Among the improvements are a $20,000 playground structure, a $10,000 traverse climbing wall, and $10,000 worth of golf and other PE equipment.
“These grants have gifted us some amazing equipment to increase opportunities for physical activity and physical education,” Harbin said. “I could not have done this without the support of my principal, upper administrators, board of education, teammates, and the most amazing secretaries.”
The investments reflect the school’s growing commitment to student wellness and movement-based learning, offering students new ways to stay active throughout the school day.
